astronaut in motion

I just finished making my very first paper-cut puppet for the collaborative animation project my brother Matt and I are doing together. It took a little while to figure out how to make workable paper joints, but I think it worked out. Now I'm super excited to see what else can be built! I'm riding my bike to his house later today so I can give him the astronaut for some test shots.

  1. So funny! I was just on flickr looking at the photos of the space shuttle launch from Thursday, February 24, 2011, then saw this! Awesome!

  2. very cool! and what a great idea to make an articulated physical character.

I'm taking a Flash animation class right now and animated a crab that I drew in Illustrator. But I had to break the pieces apart and animated them with in the computer program.

What you are doing seems more like stop-action animation. It should look very cool when you're done:)

  3. wow, has your brother ever seen the work of Lotte Reiniger? she made some amazing films with jointed paper dolls, to see your work expressed in that way would be quite exciting.
